Governance NZ

Chartered Membership

Unique international qualifications recognised in over 70 countries

Chartered membership demonstrates a capability in governance and compliance that draws together many disciplines, such as strategy, finance, law, regulation and risk, and a practical understanding of the dynamics of board and organisation. It shows that you have qualified to work in governance and that you have the relevant work experience to put your understanding into practice.

There are two levels of chartered membership: Associate, denoted by the post-nominals ACG (formerly ACIS) and Fellow, which uses the post-nominals FCG (formerly FCIS).

There is one level of non-chartered membership: Affiliated membership is denoted by the post-nominals CG (Affiliated).

In applying for membership of Governance New Zealand Inc. you are automatically applying for membership of the global body The Chartered Governance Institute (formerly ICSA Global) on its New Zealand register.

Governance New Zealand Inc. Associate and Fellow members are entitled to use the designations of Chartered Secretary and/or Chartered Governance Professional.

Affiliated membership

Affiliated membership provides professional recognition of the achievement, value and capability of those who have qualified via our non-chartered route. It is open to those who have part qualified status on the Professional Education Programme which is the gateway to chartered membership. Part qualified status is the passing of three prescribed modules from the Professional Education Programme.

Affiliated membership is denoted by the use of the post-nominals CG (Affiliated) and acknowledges your commitment to our code of professional ethics and conduct and to keeping your skills up-to-date with continuing professional development.

Subscriber membership

Subscriber membership is ideal for professionals involved in company secretarial work or other governance, risk management and compliance roles who want access to industry-related information, education and networking opportunities without undertaking any study. Subscriber members are members of Governance New Zealand but do not qualify for membership of the Chartered Governance Institute.
