Waikato Uni Management School Prizes

Each year Governance NZ sponsors the Governance New Zealand Prizes in Business Law awarded to high-achieving students from Waikato University’s Management School. This year the prizes went to Gina Butler and Iris Chang.

Gina Butler

2019 Prize in Business Law and the Legal Environment
Awarded in 2020

“I am very honoured to have received this award”, says Gina, “Practically speaking, it represents the high degree of education I gained from taking the paper and means that I will be better equipped for my future career. On a personal level, I am very passionate about being the best I can be in my studies, so winning the award was a very nice acknowledgement of the effort I put in.”

Gina is studying towards a Bachelor of Business Degree at the University of Waikato, majoring in Accounting, and minoring in Economics. Now in her final semester, she will graduate this December.

Gina currently works as a sessional assistant at the University of Waikato, tutoring Financial Accounting, but is looking forward to starting her new graduate role with Audit New Zealand next year.

When asked about her future career, Gina says that her initial goal is to complete her chartered accountancy qualification with CAANZ. She feels that becoming a chartered accountant will open many more doors for her in the future, and she is excited about joining the audit profession.

Iris Chang

2019 Prize in Law of Business Enterprise
Awarded in 2020

Iris recently completed a Bachelor of Business Analysis with a major in Accounting at the University of Waikato and is currently employed as a graduate with PwC Hamilton in their Financial Advisory Services Team.

Reflecting on her Prize Iris says, “It's a great honour to receive the Governance NZ Prize and it’s very encouraging and meaningful to me because my hard work has been acknowledged. I really enjoyed this law paper and it provided me with a great opportunity to further develop my commercial law knowledge and also to broaden my horizons.”

Passionate about giving back to the community and making a difference, Iris says her foremost career aspiration is to enhance her professional skills in order to bring value to society.
