20 years of Cadbury

Anthony Hilton takes a look at how the UK Corporate Governance Code has evolved since its founding father, Sir Adrian Cadbury, laid out the key foundations two decades ago.

The connection would probably have been lost on most people, but there could be no more appropriate curtain raiser for celebrating the effective beginnings of UK corporate governance with the 20th anniversary of the Cadbury Code, than the sentencing of Turkish businessman Asil Nadir at the Old Bailey in August this year. It had taken two decades to bring him to justice and his crime a 20 million fraud he committed in 1991 at his fruit packaging company Polly Peck.
