Soft power: Beyond regulatory compliance

“Regulatory compliance is a complex undertaking when your company is listed in three different jurisdictions.”  In 1993, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Company Ltd became the first Chinese company to be triple listed in Shanghai, Hong Kong and New York.

For Zhang Jingming, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel, meeting the changing requirements of his company’s three different listings is not the real challenge.  In a recent n interview, he argues that much more important, and much more difficult to get right, is the task to develop his company’s soft power.

Soft power: beyond regulatory compliance was first published in the June 2011 issue of CJS, the journal of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries, published by LexisNexis.
