Social Responsibility - new international standard identifies and clarifies public expectations

‘Most companies in Australia would like to be considered socially responsible. Many have taken actions that they believe would contribute to that perception. But action is often hindered by the vague descriptions of social responsibility in current use and limited understanding of their meaning in practice.’

ISO 26000 "Guidance on Social Responsibility" is a new international standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which helps companies to understand the fundamental expectations of company behaviour that exist regardless of the country or culture in which they operate and provides guidance to all types of organisations on the elements of social responsibility.
