Canterbury Branch Governance Discussion & Autumn Social

Networking Event

Social Function

Want insight into what attracts people to the boardroom and what a career in governance can look like?

The Canterbury Branch of Governance New Zealand invites you to join them at a networking event and short panel discussion. Participating in the panel are interesting speakers (some from within our own Governance New Zealand Community) who are at different stages of their governance careers and will talk about their choice in pursuing a governance career, and the opportunities they have taken along the way.

We are privileged to have amongst the panel a Women on Boards award nominee and community board member, and a strategy and planning director who is also a Vice President of the Christchurch School of Music.

Dr Sunita Gautam - Women in Governance Nominee 2022

Dr Sunita Gautam works at Ara Te Pukenga as a Business Lecturer. A “big picture thinker", Dr Gautam undertakes research into immigrant entrepreneurship. This research contributes towards the development of new policies for the Immigration Department and Chamber of Commerce to accommodate diverse entrepreneurs in New Zealand. She is actively engaged in the local and wider community as a Community Board Member, a Trustee at Rose Historic Chapel and a Board member of the Edgeware Pavilion pool. Dr Gautam also serves the community as an independent marriage celebrant, a volunteer mentor for local businesses at Business Mentors New Zealand Limited, a Justice of the peace and a leadership and career coach for members of ethnic communities.

Robyn Nuthall - Director of Strategy & Planning, University of Canterbury

Robyn Nuthall is a skilled governance professional with extensive experience in the education sector. As a Director of Strategy and Planning at the University of Canterbury, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic planning abilities. She also chairs the Planning Directors' Committee at Universities New Zealand and serves as Vice President of the Christchurch School of Music Council, showcasing her commitment to education and the community. In addition, Robyn spent 4 years as a Board Member of the Haeata Establishment Board to assist in developing the plans for the new Aranui Community Campus school.

Grant Deeney - Professional Education Graduate, GNZ

Grant comes from an engineering and project management background and is based in Christchurch where he works as a Programme Manager for GHD. Grant became interested in the governance theme as he moved into management and found that he would broaden his understanding and create opportunities by educating himself more on governance. He recently completed our professional education programme and has obtained Chartered Governance Professional accreditation.

This event is open to all Cantabrians who are seeking to pursue a career in governance. The Canterbury Committee, will be on hand to discuss membership options to join our community and pathways for a governance career, including our Professional Education Programme.
