This economic update will address the opportunities to New Zealand, including:

  • the outlook for construction and dairy
  • the impact of interest rate increases
  • the export outlook, and the importance of China
  • the Government's determination to return its budget to surplus, and
  • Labour's proposed changes to the monetary policy framework, and some broader savings issues.

Presenter: Chris Tennant-Brown, Economist 

Chris joined the Commonwealth Bank's Global Research team in 2005, and has worked as an economist in Auckland and Sydney for both ASB and CBA.  Chris's work has involved monitoring and forecasting trends in the New Zealand economy, with a focus on drawing implications for currency and interest rate markets.
