The Power of Statutory Management

Presented by Trevor Thornton, Grant Thornton

Enjoy a buffet lunch while listening to Trevor Thornton reflect on the job of a statutory manager with particular reference to the successful return of "most if not all of the Aorangi investors' capital".

Statutory management is a creation designed to deal with complex corporate failure where ordinary rules of law and insolvency cannot deal with the problems.

Trevor Thornton is now a Grant Thornton Consultant having been a partner of the firm for 28 years and a previous chairman of Grant Thornton New Zealand. Since June 2010 Trevor and two other partners have been statutory managers of Aorangi Securities Ltd, Hubbard Management Funds and a number of other lesser known entities.

His talk will comment on the powers of a statutory manager and how they differ from receivership or liquidation. This will include some interesting issues faced 'in the front line' and how the statutory managers have so far achieved the repayment of 92% of the Aorangi investors' capital.
