PRESENTER

Margaret Devlin

Margaret is an experienced director and chair. She has governance experience that includes privately held companies, industry associations, not-for-profits and state sector bodies. She chairs, or is a member of, government advisory boards that provide advice and challenge to public sector Chief Executives.

Margaret brings extensive governance and executive experience to the water and infrastructure sector, both within New Zealand and Internationally. Some of Margaret's directorships and chair appointments include Water UK, South East Water, Water NZ, WEL Networks, Lyttelton Port Company, Harrison Grierson Limited, Watercare Services Ltd, Infrastructure New Zealand and Women in Infrastructure, a network established to improve diversity and inclusion within the infrastructure sector.

She has a particular interest in the work of audit and risk committees and the contribution of those committees to developing a deep understanding of the strategic risks and most importantly the mitigation of those risks in an ever changing environment.

Margaret acts as a strong role model for other women looking for leadership roles, and has applied her extensive governance and commercial experience to the not-for-profit and charitable sectors through her involvement with organisations such as Women’s Refuge, the Foundation for Youth Development and Hospice Waikato. Margaret is a chartered Environmentalist who has been honoured as a Life member of Water NZ and the inaugural recipient of the IoD Waikato’s Lifetime Recognition award to governance in the region. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors (IoD) New Zealand, and has been a member of the National Council of the IoD and Chair of Waikato branch of the IoD. She mentors many emerging directors, especially those from diverse backgrounds.
