Northern Electoral Representative
Square is an experienced, (15+ years), Chartered Secretary specialising in non-profit governance, with a law degree from Cardiff University and an M.A. in Arts Management from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design. He is an advisor to Oryza (formerly The Oryza Foundation for Asian Performing Arts), an Executive Committee member of the Music Producers Guild NZ and the (global) Alliance of Agents & Distributors, a Fellow of Governance NZ as well as a former member of the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel for Auckland Council. He runs his own artist management company, (SquareSums&Co), and has broad experience across a range of organisations working closely with creative teams, artists, boards of directors, trustees and senior management across New Zealand and Australia.
Square is Malaysian-Chinese 马来西亚华族 by heritage, specifically Hakka 客家 Chinese and grew up in Kuala Lumpur. He now lives in Auckland with his wife and partner-in-everything, Sums Selvarajan, and two young children. He is fluent in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hakka and says his values reflect his cultural heritage/upbringing with a comfortable exposure to Western philosophy and principles.
