One advice that helped you on your leadership journey

We asked our previous winners about one advice that helped them on their leadership journey. This is what they have to say:

Meleane Burgess, Winner of the 2022 Women in Governance Award:

It is important to be confident with yourself, your skills and abilities and maintain the belief that you bring a different perspective to the boardroom.

Believe in yourself that you are good enough and that you earned your place at the board table when you were appointed, and you have a perspective that needs to be heard.

Sina Cotter Tait, Winner of the 2021 Women in Governance Award

“I’ve been lucky to have had, right from the start, some really supportive encouragement from experienced directors, including a very capable and respected woman who believed in me long before I found my feet (thanks Sinead!).

I’ve had a lot of really great wisdom and advice, but that encouragement and belief in my potential was the most helpful thing I could ever have wished for. And I try and pay that forward now.”

Jessie Chan, Winner of the 2022 Women in Governance Award:

“Listen, listen, listen.

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

Always keep learning.”

"There has always been and always will be bias in the world - it is how we respond to that bias that speaks to our character as individuals."

Claire Evans, Winner of the 2018 Women in Governance Award:

“The best advice I received was “if you don’t believe in yourself then no one else will”. Once a women starts portraying absolute confidence in their career the world starts to listen and opportunities tend to come.”
