In this webinar you will hear from Professor Craig Elliffe, Professor of Law at Auckland University and a member of the Tax Working Group 2018/2019 about his experience with the working group and on the forms of tax reform that are being proposed, including a wealth tax, capital gains tax and much more. Craig Elliffe PhD, LLM (hons), LLB (hons), Bcom


Professor Elliffe specialises in taxation in the Law Faculty at Auckland University and was appointed to a chair in 2008 after 14 years as a tax partner at KPMG and 9 years as a tax partner at Chapman Tripp. Craig’s research areas are in the field of international tax, corporate tax and tax avoidance.

He was a member of the Government's Tax Working Group in 2018/19 and he also served as External Quality Reviewer of the New Zealand Inland Revenue (Policy and Strategy) (2013-2015 and 2017-2023), Chaired the review in 2021-2023), and was a member of the Methodology Advisory Group (2021 and 2022) providing feedback and advice to the High Net Wealth project of Inland Revenue and as an independent reviewer of the High Net Wealth Project of Inland Revenue (2023). Craig has also been a member of a number of international committees and associations on fiscal matters including the Permanent Scientific Committee of the International Fiscal Association (2012-2018).

Craig is a long-standing member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Tax Advisory Group (from 2009-current), currently Deputy Chair, and was a member of the Tax Avoidance Working Group 2011.

He is a published author, his most recent book being Taxing the Digital Economy(Cambridge University Press (2021)) and he was awarded JF Northey Prize by the Legal Research Foundation in 2016 for best legal book published in New Zealand for International and Cross-Border Taxation in New Zealand (Thomson Reuters (2015)).
