Date Change: Bad behaviour and bullying on boards - what do we need to do about it?

Seminar

The Wellington Branch of Governance New Zealand invite you to join us for this virtual event where the Wellington Branch Chair, Lola Toppin-Casserly will moderate a discussion on bad behaviour in the boardroom, specifically board bullying - what do we need to do about it?

Recent Institute of Directors' research identified that around 30% of directors had either experienced or witnessed bullying in the boardroom. Further research at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington, has identified that the problem could be more extensive than this, with wide-ranging negative impacts of board bullying trickling down through organisations.

Yet what can be done about it, is not so clear.

As an employee, the Employment Relations Authority addresses workplace bullying. But board members are rarely considered employees, given the majority of them in New Zealand are volunteers. Whether board members actually speak up about it is also not clear. What should and can be done about board bullying, and who needs to do it? These questions will be discussed by the online panel.
