Overview

This three day face to face course draws on theory, practice, and the collective knowledge of the participants to explore the foundational aspects of governance - governance, strategy and finance. It is a challenging and rewarding learning experience that will consolidate your understanding of the role of the director and the board.

The three course modules are delivered over three days by experienced facilitators with director experience, who will share their own real world experiences to aid your learning. Each module includes a mix of presentations, discussions, case studies and simulated situations. The course is uniquely based around a single hypothetical case study to support your practical learning. You will meet and network with peers across sectors.

In preparation for best individual learning, participants will be provided with pre-course reading material and will be asked to complete a short self-reflective survey about their governance knowledge and experience. A further survey will be completed three months after the course to enable participants to reflect on the implementation of their learning.

Comprehensive course materials and a complimentary copy of The Fish Rots from the Head authored by Bob Garratt are provided.

On successful completion you will receive the Governance New Zealand Effective Director Certificate.

End of Day 2: Meet the Director session

Two hour interactive session with experienced directors sharing their knowledge, skills and tips about governance in an informal pre-dinner session
