Julie Hardaker FCIS

Julie is a lawyer, former Mayor of Hamilton and governance professional. She has a strong interest in women and leadership and has recently completed research on gender stereotypes and women leaders.

Julie has practiced law for many years and has her own practice, Julie Hardaker Lawyers, specialising in employment law, public law, relationship property and providing governance advice. She is also Special Counsel to the EMA and a previous finalist in the NZ Law Awards Employment Award.

From 2010 – 2016, Julie served two terms as Mayor of Hamilton leading the council through major governance and financial restructuring following the V8s financial fallout and the development of major strategies to respond to the population growth of Hamilton.

She has held many business and community governance roles, and is currently a Governance New Zealand Board member, Chair of Women on Boards and Chair of the Environmental Protection Authority.

Julie works with organisations and boards on developing governance best practice and provides training programmes on unconscious bias.
