Our programme provides comprehensive knowledge and skills in the essential elements of good governance principles, and is valuable preparation for any professional aspiring to a senior career in governance, compliance and risk management. The programme sets the standard for entry into the profession and is the gateway to membership of Governance New Zealand and the Chartered Governance Institute — both leading international associations for governance practitioners.

Eligibility & Exemptions

To undertake the Governance New Zealand International Chartered Governance Programme (ICGP) the applicant must be resident in New Zealand.*

Entry is available to those who hold a university degree or degree-equivalent qualification satisfying Governance New Zealand's entry requirements. An entry qualification may be either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. A degree-equivalent qualification may be a membership qualification for a related professional association.

The International Chartered Governance Programmes is made up of six courses, delivered online with tutor support. Exemptions are available dependent on academic degree(s) or professional qualification(s) held.

Those working in the legal and finance professions could qualify for Chartered Secretary or Chartered Governance Professional status in as little as 12 months under “the fast track options”.

*Members of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) who hold Associate or Fellow status and have been a fully paid-up member in good standing for a minimum of two years, may be able to study from outside of New Zealand. View full information for ICSI members

Complete the enrolment application form and return it to us with the required documentation.

Please include the following when submitting your application:

  • Certified copy of Proof of Address
  • Certified copy of your degree and/or transcript
  • Copy of your resume/CV

Lawyers and Accountants:

  • Proof of professional membership and/or practising certificate

Note: documents can be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP) or other Public Notary. A local JP can be located by searching this register: https://justiceofthepeace.org.nz/Page/Search
