Overview

Sustainability - Principles and Practice

For an organisation to thrive long-term it must embrace sustainability. To build customer loyalty, to secure investment, to attract and retain talented staff, to innovate and problem solve, to manage risks and reduce costs. If an organisation fails to adopt sustainable practices, then disruption and competitors will overtake them. Change is constant.

The Christchurch City Council has declared a climate and ecological emergency and set science-based emission reduction targets for the city. Halving city emissions in nine years and reaching carbon neutrality by 2045 will result in swift and far-reaching changes. Change equals opportunity.

This presentation will explore how sustainability approaches can support innovation and harness new opportunities. It will explore how the Council and Christchurch is responding to the climate crisis and other challenges, and how Christchurch can truly achieve its vision to be a city of opportunity for all.
