Make 2020 the year to develop the skills, resources and knowledge to equip you in your role as a governance professional with our internationally-recognised post-graduate pathway.
Our progamme provides comprehensive knowledge and skills in the essential elements of good governance principles, and is valuable preparation for any professional aspiring to a senior career in governance, compliance and risk management. The programme sets the standard for entry into the profession and is the gateway to membership of Governance New Zealand and the Chartered Governance Institute (formerly ICSA) — both leading international associations for governance practitioners.
Study that provides credibility, portability and flexibility
Becoming a Chartered Secretary or Chartered Governance Professional signifies the gold standard of the governance profession.
The programme is made up of six core modules, each of 12 weeks duration, delivered by distance learning with tutor support. Exemptions are available dependent on academic degree(s) or professional qualification(s) held.
Those working in the legal and finance professions could qualify for Chartered Secretary or Chartered Governance Professional status in as little as 12 months under “the fast track options”.

Following a review of the International Qualifying Standard – the framework that underpins our qualifications in New Zealand - some significant changes to our qualifying programme have been implemented. We now offer two chartered professional designations with the new Chartered Governance Professional designation sitting alongside that of Chartered Secretary.
Affiliated membership is a new class of non-chartered membership which provides professional recognition of the achievement, value and capability of those who have qualified via our non-chartered route. It is open to those who have passed three prescribed modules from the PEP.
The new qualifying programme trains students in more relevant subject areas, offers greater support by design and will create graduates eligible to use both chartered designations on achieving the requisite work experience. We believe that these changes will open more doors for more people into the growing world of governance.
As from 1 January 2019, Members of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, (ICSI), may qualify to study with Governance NZ in order to gain the Chartered Secretary or Chartered Governance qualification.
